WOD = Workout of the Day
The WOD is one of the cornerstones of Crossfit. WOD stands for “Workout of the Day.” It is a competitive workout where you compete against other Crossfitters in your class. The mentality behind the WOD is speed. We never want you to lose your technique but the WOD is where you take what you have been working hard on and put it to use.
A WOD is designed to be competitive but it is really programmed to be fun! Too many lifting regiments are repetitive and boring and they lose their effectiveness as your body gets used to all of the same movements. A WOD can be programmed however your coach wants it to be. It can be a 3 minute all out sprint or it may be a 30 minute workout designed to test your determination and heart. The beauty behind that type of programming is that your body never knows what to expect and the results can continue to come to you quickly as you don’t plateau as often.
Do you miss the competitive days of when you used to play sports? The WOD is a great way to regain that competitive edge that you may have thought you lost. We always strive for the most fun competition possible and when you get to put your skills and desire on the line you will begin to enjoy the process. Many of our athletes look at the WOD as a game and enjoy it that way. It just so happens that this “game” can also help give you incredible mental and physical improvements along the way.
